Most incidents trace back to design

In India, electrical installations are legally required to comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) 2023, and to be designed in accordance with it before work starts.

Conformity depends on competent, confident designers

Conformity with electrical installation standards is critical for electrical designers and verifiers, both from a statutory and a safety perspective. It is best achieved when design is carried out by competent professionals who understand the standard and how to apply it in real-life situations.

This is easier said than done. Standards are lengthy and hard to understand, with many cross-references that make it difficult to relate them to what is seen on site.

We offer training on the requirements for electrical design through twelve structured courses, based on IS 732 (India), BS 7671 (UK and Middle East), or IEC 60364 (international). These intensive courses are intended for people with a working understanding of electrical installations who would like to learn electrical installation design. All courses can be delivered in person or online.

Electrical installation standards exist to protect people and property. In India, electrocutions and fires happen all too often and are too readily accepted as inevitable. This is largely because there is a big gap between what standards require, and how they are interpreted and applied on the ground.

ProtegoPlus Electrotech was founded to close that gap. Through active involvement in writing electrical installation standards at the international and Indian level, we understand the intent behind each provision, not just its wording. We bring this understanding directly to designers, manufacturers, developers, and the professionals who train under us.

Krish Theobald is a specialist in electrical installation standards. He represents India at the IEC as a Project Leader and member across multiple subgroups of TC 64, the committee responsible for the IEC 60364 series, and sits on several BIS technical committees including ETD 20, which is responsible for the National Electrical Code of India.

He works with a range of clients across the electrical industry, from private developers and leading consulting firms to government bodies and global technology companies, providing electrical design services and compliance-focused design reviews on projects ranging from high-end residential and commercial fit-outs to large-scale infrastructure. He also advises electrical equipment manufacturers on product compliance, technical documentation, and customer engagement.

Over the last three years, Krish has trained more than 10,000 professionals across India and has been interviewed by leading electrical industry publications and podcasts in the UK.
